Thelma Peters age 91 of Little Rock, Iowa died Friday, September 1, 2023 at her home in rural Little Rock.
A Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Iowa with Reverend Steve Anderson, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery of Little Rock.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 5th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock.
Thelma Eljean Peters was born November 23, 1931, the daughter of Stienus and Martha (Kruger) Tirrel in Brookings County, South Dakota. She grew up near White, South Dakota with nine siblings. Thelma attended Country School and later earned her GED and CNA degrees.
On September 14, 1951, Thelma was united in marriage to Denton Peters at First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. They made their home and raised their four children on a farm near Little Rock. They later moved to Denton’s family farm North of Little Rock, which is a Century Farm. Along with being a farmer’s wife and mother of four children, in the past Thelma worked at Country View Manor for 20 years and also Chase Bag in Sibley.
Thelma enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading and putting puzzles together. She belonged to the Women's Club, Women's Association, World Service and was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. She had a great love for the Lord. She also enjoyed sitting outside on the farm enjoying the beauty that surrounded her. Thelma's Grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren were very special to her and she enjoyed celebrating the holidays at their farm with all the family.
Thelma passed away the morning of September 1, 2023, at her home North of Little Rock.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Deborah (Denny) Kanengieter of Astoria, SD, Sandra (John) Hill of Branson, MO, Dennis (Sherree) Peters of Lake Park, IA, Todd (friend, Barb) Peters of Sergeant Bluff, IA; fifteen grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Sletten, Stanley (Janice) Tirrel, John (Genie) Tirrel, Bob (Sheri) Tirrel; sister-in-law, Leona Gustafson; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stienus and Martha; husband, Denton; granddaughter, Joni Harms; brothers, Jim, Glen, and David Tirrel; sisters, Marj Prunty and Frances Kracke.
