Thelma June Van Briesen was born March 25, 1938, the daughter of Walter and Gladys (Duin) Van Briesen. Thelma grew up on the family farm Northeast of George where she attended country school and later George School. When her parents moved from the family farm to George, Thelma accompanied them and lived in that residence until 2019 when she moved to an apartment located near the Good Samaritan Society-George. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in George in February of 2021. Upon graduation from high school, Thelma began working at the George State Bank (currently Security Savings Bank). Thelma was a dedicated and faithful employee at the bank for 62 years. She always enjoyed waiting on and visiting with the bank's customers that numbered so many over her time at the bank. She retired from the bank in 2018. Thelma often mentioned how the banking industry and her duties had changed so much over her 62 years. Very few can say they worked for the same employer for 62 years.  Thelma was a lifelong member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church of rural George. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years and was also the long time Treasurer for the Sunday School.  Thelma's passion in life was her flowers and flower beds. She spent countless hours tending to them and she could be seen all hours of the day or night — yes with a flashlight meticulously looking after them. Over her lifetime, Thelma had to have planted flowers numbering in the thousands. She also took pride in keeping the yard looking neat. When not tending to her flowers, Thelma could be seen "cruising the loop" of the streets in George in her Ford Ranger. Thelma also loved to attend any of the families sporting events and other school activities.

Thelma is survived by brother, Paul and wife Angela Van Briesen, sister-in-law, Carol Van Briesen, brother-in-law, Norwood Geerdes all of George, 9 nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews, and 7 great, great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Gladys Van Briesen, sister Doris and husband Lawerence Stubbe, sister LaDonn Geerdes, and brother Larry Van Briesen.
