Theodore “Ted” Hoogendoorn age 79 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 19, 2018 at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Dan Haggar officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Lester, IA.

Visitation will be Friday May 18^th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids.

Theodore “Ted” Hoogendoorn was born April 24, 1939 in Lyon County, Iowa, the son of John and Sadie (Van Abbema) Hoogendoorn. Ted was raised on the family farm near Lester, IA. He attended Lester Public School and graduated in 1957. He worked as a farm hand with his father until renting his own farm near Lester.

Ted married Connie Hein on August 25, 1961. To this union four sons were born. Together they farmed in the Lester, Alvord, and Rock Rapids, areas. Connie died on June 21, 1994 after 32 years of marriage. Upon retiring from the farm Ted moved to Rock Rapids and worked for Central Lyon school as a custodian and bus driver for 9 years. He then began working at Te Slaa Farms in the spring and fall during his retirement.

On August 7, 2004 Ted married Barb Grotewold. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. He died May 15, 2018 at the Rock Rapids Health Center at the age of 79.

He is survived by his wife, Barb; sons, Timothy (Kay) Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids, Jeffrey (Kim) Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids, IA, David (Kelli Potter) Hoogendoorn of Chamberlain, SD and Charles (Sandi) Hoogendoorn of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margie VandenToorn of Sioux Center, IA and Sadie (Albert) Schelling of Orange City, IA; sisters-in-law, Cornelia Hoogendoorn, Arlene Hoogendoorn, Peggy Hoogendoorn, Hermina Van Veldhuizen all of Rock Valley, IA, Mary Burnett of Minneapolis, MN, Judy (Ron) Kahl of Janesville, WI; brothers-in-law, Frank Wynia of Rock Rapids, IA, Robert (Karen) Hein of Janesville, WI, Jerry Bauer of Rock Rapids, IA; and other extended family members.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; parents, John and Sadie Hoogendoorn; infant brother, John; brothers, Gilbert, Alvin and John B. Hoogendoorn; sisters, Henrietta Davelaar, Joan Van Veldhuizen, Nellie Burnett, and Mary Ann Wynia; brothers-in-law, Willie Davelaar, Art Van Veldhuizen, Arie Van Veldhuizen, Albert Maassen, Marvin VandenToorn, and James Burnett.
