      Thomas “Tom” Cole age 74, of George, IA, died Sunday, November 15, 2020, at at his home in George, IA.

     Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA with Pastor Bryan Anderson, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.

     Visitation without the family present will be Wednesday, November 18th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.  Due to the recent Governor’s mandate the Cole family will not be present during the public visitation and we will be following the social distancing and mask requirements.  There will only be a total of 15 people allowed in the funeral home at a given time.

     Thomas Cole was born February 2, 1946, at Storm Lake, IA, the son of Kenneth and Alice (Willfong) Cole.  Tom graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1964.  He continued his education for one year at the University of Iowa and another year at Morningside College.  On June 10, 1967, he was united in marriage to Marianne Siebring at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in George, IA.  For the next 53 years Tom and Marianne made their home and raised their children in Colorado Springs, Storm Lake and George, IA.  Tom farmed for 20 years south of George and later worked for Sanford Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids as a building supervisor.  After attending an adult bible study with Ken Eberline, Tom became a believer and a few years later led his whole family to be baptized at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Gilbert Hamilton.  Tom was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George where he was involved with the Awana program, served on the Elder Board, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.  In his community he served as the Lyon County Farm Bureau president, served on the George Farmer’s Elevator board and was a member of the Iowa State Farm Bureau.  Tom enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner with friends and family, playing cribbage and church softball, fishing and especially liked having his family gathered around.  During his retirement he took a job for Lewis Drug in Rock Rapids delivering drugs to many nursing homes and waiver homes in the area.  Tom’s health started to decline and he was diagnosed with ALS.  After receiving excellent and loving care from his wife, Tom died at his home this past Sunday evening, November 15, 2020 at the age of seventy-four.

     He is survived by his wife, Marianne Cole of George, IA; their children, Lisa (Rob) Werner of Chicago, IL; Jeff (Jill) Cole of Broomfield, CO and Jennifer (Seth) De Young of Orange City, IA; 10 grandchildren, Abbie Werner, Ben Werner, Toby Werner, Erin (Jason)Moon, Dane Cole, Zoe Cole, Isaac De Young, Micah De Young, Anisa De Young and Bella De Young; sister, Karen (John) Duggan of Savannah, GA; a special cousin who was like a sister, Marcia Mc Conkey; brothers-in-law, Gary (Bev) Siebring and Gordon Siebring both of George, IA; along with several nieces and nephews.

     Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Alice and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Owen and Esther Siebring.
