Velda Marie Loger

Rock Rapids, Iowa 

     Velda M. Loger age 99, of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 29th at Peace Lutheran Church of Rock Rapids, with Rev. Alex Sloter officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. 

     Velda Marie Loger was born on September 26, 1924, on the family farm, near Rock Rapids, IA, the daughter of Richard and Bertha (Kock) Wittrock. On May 28, 1939, Velda was confirmed at the Evangelical Church of Lakewood, IA. She attended country school and Rock Rapids High School, where she graduated in 1943.

     Velda was united in marriage to Ray Loger on March 4, 1949. They were blessed with a daughter, Mitzi. Over the years Velda worked as an office assistant, cleaning lady, and salesclerk at Home Clothiers in Rock Rapids, as well as several other places in Rock Rapids. 

     She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, active with the Daughter’s of Peace and served as the Treasurer of Sunday School for over 50 years. She enjoyed quilting, playing pinochle and reading. She also was a member of the Rex Strait Post No. 103, American Legion Auxiliary and the Van Anne-Fields Post No. 6960, VFW Auxiliary, both of Rock Rapids.

     She is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Loger of Sioux Falls, SD, and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Bertha Wittrock; her husband, Ray Loger; three brothers, Melvin (Shirley) Wittrock, Orlynn Wittrock and Harold (Arlene) Wittrock; one sister, Lois (Jim) Buckley; a nephew, Rodney Wittrock; and a niece, Valerie Post.
