Verlyn Venenga, age 81, of Little Rock, Iowa died Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 14th at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, with military honors by Buss-Johnson American Legion Post No. 316 of Little Rock, IA.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 13th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Salem Reformed church in Little Rock.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the Venenga family for later designation.
Verlyn Dean Venenga was born on January 10, 1939 near Little Rock, IA, the son of Albert and Margaret (Christians) Venenga. He grew up in Little Rock and later graduated from Little Rock High School in 1957. Verlyn was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1963. He had basic training at Fort Carson, CO and served at Fort Hood, TX.
On June 17, 1960 he was united in marriage to Betty Hayenga at the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. To this union, two daughters were born, Ranae and Stacey. Verlyn worked various places throughout his life. He was co-owner of the Corner DX, and later drove truck for 26 years for Joe’s Ready Mix, both in Little Rock.
Verlyn was a member of the Salem Reformed Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon.
His hobbies included golfing, pheasant hunting, card club, and coffee with his buddies. But most of all he loved being with his family, especially his grandkids.
Verlyn is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty Venenga of Little Rock, IA; two daughters, Ranae (Brian) Tutje of Sheldon, IA, and Stacey (Rick) Vander Haar of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Megan and Jacob Tutje and Chase, Makenzie and Jasmine Vander Haar; one brother, Allan (Charlene) Venenga of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Margaret Venenga, and one sister, Janice Christians.
