Vernon Reemtsma age 82 of Sioux Falls, SD died Thursday, September 6th, 2018, at Southridge Healthcare in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at First Reformed Church, 4800 S Tomar Rd, Sioux Falls, SD, with Rev. Steve Anthes, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. Monday, at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA.
Visitation will be Monday, September 10th, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls, SD.
Vernon Theodore Reemtsma was born August 19, 1936, in Lyon County Iowa, the son of Theodore and Louise (Cassens) Reemtsma. He attended school in Rock Rapids Iowa and graduated in 1954. Following high school, he served in the United States Army, from October 15, 1954 to September 30, 1957. Following the Army, he went to Nettleton College in Sioux Falls and received a degree in Junior Accounting. He worked for Park Grant and Midwest Coast in office jobs. He then went to Midwest Coast driving school and drove truck from 1979 to September 30, 2016. He was awarded safe driver awards several times and a milestone one-million-mile safe driving award.
On June 27, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lavonne Faye Eeten in Little Rock Iowa. They moved into a house in Sioux Falls, SD after marriage. They became loving parents to their four children, Darryl Vernon, Curtis Dean, Troy Alan and Susan Faye.
Vernon was a member of the Reformed Church, Toastmasters, and Masonic Lodge Trinity #200 Sioux Falls, SD.
Vernon and Lavonne enjoyed travelling together. They especially enjoyed the 10 years they were able to drive truck together around the United States. They enjoyed their time in the Black Hills at Hart Ranch and enjoyed spending time together. Vernon always had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a witty joke. He always looked forward to enjoying his life.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lavonne, sons, Darryl (Sandra), Curtis (Nancy), and Troy (Karen); daughter, Susan; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; brother, Lynn; sisters, Eleanor, Linda and Leora.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carolyn.
