Victor Lloyd Renken was born May 16, 1948 in Sibley, IA to Otto Carl and June Esther (Kruger) Renken. Vic was raised in the George area until the age of 9 when he attended the Glenwood State Schools in Glenwood, IA for 11 years.  After schooling he returned to live with his parents in George and attended Hope Haven in Rock Valley where he worked as a 'grounds keeper' until his retirement. His life was a living example of kindness and compassion.

Victor was a beautiful soul and he loved life. He loved God and family. He was kind and caring and ever so generous with his smile. He touched people and one could not help but enjoy his company. He considered everyone his friend, and he had many friends. He had a love for people, and it was easy to tell he was genuinely and interested in visiting with you. He had joy in his eyes. Either you were already Victor's friend or after a short visit you would become Victor's friend. His smile and laugh were contagious.

Vic had a passion for the sounds and sights of NASCAR racing. He also was a big Viking's fan and loved to watch their games. He never missed the special times of gatherings at Roger's House. You could say he was a collector of things because everything he had was a gift from someone and that made it a treasure to him. He had a hard time parting with these treasures, not because he used them on a regular basis or even displayed them. He had so many things to keep that some of it had to be stored. Even so, he knew where each and every item came from and who may have given it to him. It could be said that Vic had a hard time thinning and getting rid of things, maybe because they represented people. He loved people and you could tell through his smile. He brought light and love to those around him. This past Sunday Vic passed away at the Rock Rapids Hospital at the age of 72 and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his brothers, Robert Renken of Cherokee, IA, and Michael (Karen) of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Vianne (Dale) Pendleton of Raleigh, NC, Veleda Renken(Ed Colella) of San Diego, CA and Leesa (Tom) Latterell of Sibley, IA; sister-in-law Evelyn Renken of Worthington, MN; many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and June; and brother, Arnold Renken.

The family would also like to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan in George, IA and the healthcare workers at Avera Merrill Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
