 Virginia Berg age 88, of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, January 13, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

 Visitation will be Thursday, January 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA.

 Funeral will be 10:30 AM, Friday, January 17th at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Alex Sloter officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA.

 In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Berg family for later designation. 

 Virginia Mae Berg was born August 16, 1936, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Cornelius J. “Vic” and Frances (Constable) Foster. She was baptized on April 6, 1947, at First Christian Church in Atlantic and attended Atlantic Community School, graduating in 1954 at the top of her class. She continued her education at Westmar College in LeMars Iowa again graduating at the top of her class receiving her teacher’s certificate. Additionally, she earned an advanced degree from Sioux Falls College in 1972 graduating cum laude. She taught Kindergarten and various elementary classes and was a long-time substitute at Central Lyon School in Rock Rapids, IA. She loved it when a former student came up to say hello. While living in Rock Rapids, she met her husband to be, Verlyn Berg, at the local roller-skating rink. Virginia and Verlyn were united in marriage on July 14th, 1957. Together they made their home near Rock Rapids and were blessed with four children, Scott, Denise, Alan and Darcy. 

 She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, active with several church activities, such as Sunday School Teacher, directed several years of the Christmas Programs and sang for many church services, funerals and weddings. She stitched her love into hundreds of quilts with the church group for those in need. She ensured each family member had her quilts to wrap themselves in her love. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and was known for the cookies that she made for her grandchildren. Most of all, she will be remembered for her strong faith and her love for her family.

 This past Monday, January 13, 2025, Virginia died unexpectedly at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 88.

 Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, Verlyn Berg of Rock Rapids, IA; three children, Scott (Geri) Berg of Omaha, NE, Denise Steenhoven of Little Rock, IA and Darcy (Sean) Grotewold of Larchwood, IA; a daughter-in-law, Anna Berg of Bancroft, NE; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Frances Foster; her son, Alan Berg; her son-in-law, Jim Steenhoven; three sisters, Shirley, Vera and Kay; and two brothers, Jack and Jim.
