      Wayne Allen Steenhoven age 65, of George, IA died Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at the Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27th at the First Reformed Church in Boyden, IA with Rev. Bob VanderSchaaf officiating.  Burial will take place in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.

     Visitation will be Friday, July 26th from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Boyden.

     Wayne Allen Steenhoven was born February 10, 1954, at Montevideo, MN the son of Arie and Alice (Pollema) Steenhoven.  His family moved to northwest Iowa where he attended school at Boyden until the 2nd grade.  The family then moved west of George, where he attended school and graduated from George High School in 1972.  As a young man he worked at Coop Oil and attended Northwest Iowa Technical College for welding.  Wayne worked at Demco in Boyden and soon after started driving truck.  Wayne was a driver/operator and later owned and managed two trucks that delivered loads for Sather’s and other various companies.  Wayne was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Lucille Meendering, on October 3, 1973, at Hope Reformed Church in George.  During their life together, Wayne farmed and they made their home on his parents’ home place.  Wayne was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden.  He enjoyed spending time at Lake Okoboji during the summer and Arizona during the winter.  Many remember Wayne as #88.  He drove race car for 10 years, winning three track championships and many trophy dashes.  This past Tuesday evening, Wayne passed away while attending the races at the Rock Rapids Speedway during the Lyon County Fair.  This was always Wayne’s favorite place to race. He will be greatly missed.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lucille, of George, IA; sister-in-law, Kathy Steenhoven, of Doon, IA; brother, Steve (Lynette) Steenhoven, of George, IA; sister, Alethea (Jack) Stubbe, of George, IA; his in-laws, Marlene Stubbe, of George, IA; Gerald (Diann) Meendering, of Aurelia, IA; Leona Meendering, of Sibley, IA; Gladys (Dwight) Shaffer, of George, IA; Audrey (Conrad) DeNoble, of Rock Rapids, IA; Eleanor (Alan) Julius, of George, IA; along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

     Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Arie and Alice Steenhoven; brother Arlen Steenhoven; nephew Jim Steenhoven; niece Lori Steenhoven; father and mother-in-law, Andrew and Ella Meendering; brothers-in-law, Harlyn Stubbe and Ed Meendering and sister-in-law, Louella Meendering; nephew, Johnathan Julius and great niece, Kimberly Stubbe.
