Wendell Merle Harms was born October 18, 1940 at the Sibley Hospital, the son of Wilke and Mattie (Kanengieter) Harms. He grew up on the family farm North of Little Rock. On March 15, 1963 Wendell was united in marriage to Connie Odens at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. They raised their five children on a farm near Little Rock before moving into town in 2008.
Wendell was a farmer his entire life. He raised feeder cattle and stock cattle. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and deacon. Wendell enjoyed listening to Polka music and good old country hymns. In the past he loved being a pitcher for fast pitched softball teams. Many days you would find Wendell going to the farm and feeding the dogs treats and “bossing” the boys around. He loved collecting toy tractors and spoiling his grandkids. His family will remember him as a hardworking man who loved his grandkids.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Connie; children, Rochelle (Curt) Van Tilburg of Sibley, IA, LaRae (Robert) Elliott of Sioux Falls, SD, Terry (Lisa) Harms of Little Rock, IA; and Natalie Harms of Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; special family friend, Shayne Mayer of Rock Rapids, IA; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Venenga and Joleen Odens; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Mark Perkins; along with extended relatives and friends.
