      Wendell Stanley McCarty age 77 of Sibley, Iowa died Friday, February 15 at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

     Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 20^th at St Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley with Fr. Richard Ries celebrating.

     Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 19^th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     Wendell S. McCarty was born November 27, 1941 in George, Iowa, the son of Wilton Steve and Lucille (Locker) McCarty. His parents separated shortly after his birth and Wendell was raised by Wilton and Marguerite (Vande Berg) McCarty.  He was raised on the family farm north of Sibley.  He attended country school and later the Sibley Public High School until his graduation in 1960.  Wendell joined the Army National Guard on March 2, 1964, attended basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

     He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Markman on February 12, 1966 and the couple made their home in Bigelow, MN where they raised two children together.   Wendell enjoyed several different employments during his lifetime including his job at the Bigelow Elevator, hauling machinery for John Deere, working for the Sather family in Round Lake, and hauling newspapers for the Worthington Daily Globe.  He was also involved in farming on the family farm for most of his life.  Later in life, Wendell worked in the paint department at Walmart which he thoroughly enjoyed because of his love for visiting with others.

     In 1996 Wendell moved from Bigelow to the family farm north of Sibley where he resided until his passing.  He enjoyed farming, pheasant hunting with his son, gardening, watching westerns, listening to 1950’s music, antiquing, old collector vehicles, and raising and caring for small animals on his acreage.

     Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Stacie (Jeff) Golombiecki of Bigelow, MN; son, Wade McCarty of Sibley, IA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Sherry Johnson of Meeteetse, WY; brother, Dale Dekok of Chicago, IL.; and special friend Alfreda Sandbeck.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ronald “Bud” McCarty, Marlin “Butch” McCarty,  William “Bill” McCarty; and special long-time friends Oscar and Bessie Breckle.
