Larchwood, Iowa 

     William “Bill” Ahlers age 48, of Larchwood, IA died Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD, following a courageous battle with cancer.

     An informal Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Asbury United Methodist Church of Sioux Falls, SD, with Rev. Kip Roozen officiating. 

     Visitation will be Wednesday, January 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Larchwood, IA.

     William ‘Bill’ John Ahlers was born on March 2, 1975, in Luverne, MN. The son of Pamela (Dahlberg) and David Ahlers. He was raised in Larchwood, IA, and attended and graduated from West Lyon in Inwood, IA. He attended South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota, taking every Psychology class possible. 

     Bill was known as a hard worker. If a job needed to be done, he just got it done and often went above and beyond what was asked of him. For those who knew Bill his dry sense of humor defined his personality. Sometimes you didn’t know if he was joking or not. He enjoyed reminiscing about high school and college. He said that playing high school football was the most fun time in his life. Bill bought his first Ford Mustang in high school; his favorite body style was the fox body. His recent addiction to Temu started an eclectic pin collection that he pinned to his Canadian tuxedo. When we visited the Oregon coast in October, Bill requested a rare photoshoot in his Canadian tuxedo and brother Don’s cowboy hat. Bill was a lifelong, diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In December 2023, he attended his first Steelers game. He said it was the best Christmas ever. We encourage you to wear Steelers gear or yellow and black to the memorial services.

     He is survived by his mother, Pamela Ahlers of Larchwood, IA; two siblings, Bonnie (Ben) Shinn of Harrisburg, SD, Julie (Jeremy) Moser of Altoona, IA; nephews and niece, Jackson Moser, Sev and Toby Shinn; grandmother, Betty Dahlberg of The Dalles, OR and several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his father, David Ahlers, his brother, Don Ahlers, three grandparents Albert Sr. & Syra Ahlers and Donald Dahlberg, and ten aunts and uncles. 

     Bill was loved by more than he even knew and will be sorely missed. The world has lost another irreplaceable soul.
