Wilma Geerdes age 78 of Rock Rapids died Friday, May 18, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Kathy Sides, officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids, IA.
Visitation will be Monday, May 21st from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.
Wilma (Lemke) Geerdes was born January 2, 1940 on a farm near Rushmore, MN the daughter of Arthur and Ethel (Milton) Lemke. Wilma grew up at Rushmore, MN where she started country school and later attended Worthington High School in Worthington, MN, graduating in 1957. She was united in marriage to Raymond Geerdes on June 12, 1957 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Rushmore, MN. They made their home at Rock Rapids, IA. Wilma was foremost a mother and homemaker, but for seventeen years she worked as a school cook at the Central Lyon Community School District. Wilma was an excellent cook and baker, She made the best pies, cookies and banana bread. Something her family fondly remembers. She enjoyed working in her yard, keeping it up and tending to her flowers. Wilma liked the color red, nature and birds especially cardinals. When everyone had a Birthday, Wilma made sure she sent a card to make you feel loved and remembered. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Naomie Circle and also was a VFW Ladies Auxiliary member. Holidays, family gatherings and having family near was the most important to her. She was the family rock. Her coffee pot was always on and she often had company over. This past Friday morning, May 18, 2018, Wilma was called home at the age of seventy-eight.
She is survived by her children; Brenda (Joe) Deutsch of Ellsworth, MN; Kevin (Hermina) Geerdes of Rock Rapids, IA; Rhonda (Lainn) Menning of Rock Rapids, IA and Chad (Shanna) Geerdes of Rock Rapids IA; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; along with two sisters, Faye Ailts of Worthington, MN and Ferne Schneiderman of Worthington, MN.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents, Arthur and Ethel.
