Yvonne Poppens

     Yvonne Poppens age 74 of Larchwood, Iowa died Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

     A funeral service will take place 10:30 AM, Friday, January 5, 2024 at United Church of Christ in Larchwood, Iowa with Reverend Tim Voigt, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Larchwood Cemetery.

    Visitation will take place Thursday, January 4th from 5 to 7 PM at the United Church of Christ in Larchwood.

      Yvonne Poppens was born July 31, 1949 at Sioux falls the daughter of Joel and Adeline ( Swenson) Middlen. Yvonne spent her childhood years on a farm two miles West of Larchwood were she attended West Lyon school graduating in 1967. Two weeks after graduation, she attended Stewarts Beauty School, graduated, and passed her state board exams at the age of 18.

     Yvonne's love of racing brought her to meet Wayne Poppens. They were united in marriage on August 13, 1977 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They made their home in Larchwood and raised two girls together, Janel and Bobbi Jo.

      Yvonne owned her own Beauty Salon called Creative Cuts and worked as a hairdresser for 30 years. After retirement from being a hairstylist, Yvonne missed being around people, and found herself working at Walgreens for 15 years, before officially retiring. Yvonne enjoyed going out to eat with her husband, playing cards,spending time with friends, going on car rides to Scooters coffee with her sidekick, Teddy (her dog), camping, getting her nails done with her granddaughter, Trinity, spending hours talking on the phone to her daughter Bobbi Jo, and spending time watching races and rodeos with her husband.

     Her family will remember her as a constant in their life, always there with a listening ear, confident, a heart of gold, strong, and having a positive attitude.

     She wrote the following herself: "you come with nothing, you leave with nothing, its what you do in the middle that counts. God bless you all."

     Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 46 years, Wayne; daughters, Janel (Lee) Vander Schaaf of Rock Valley, IA and Bobbi Jo (Adam) Kroger of Inwood, IA; grandchildren, Preston and Trinity Vander Schaaf; step grandson, Weston Kroger; brothers, Duane (Amy Klocko) Middlen and Bob Middlen; sister-in-law, Mary Middlen; special friend, Sue Lund; fur baby, Teddy; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel and Adeline; brother, Richard Middlen; sister-in-law, Lou Middlen; son-in-law, Levi Sandal; and niece, Nicole Middlen.
