Darlene Willemssen age 92 of Sibley, Iowa died Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Sibley.
A family memorial service will take place Saturday, February 19, 2022, with Pastor Maggie Gisch, officiating at Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley.
Darlene June Willemssen was born May 21, 1929, the daughter of Philip and Harriet (Meyeraan) Willemssen. She grew up in Sibley and attended Sibley High School graduating in 1948. After graduation Darlene went to work at Millers Department Store. She worked at Millers until the closing of the store in 1974. She then worked at the Sibley Liquor Store for five years, before coming self employed doing painting, wallpapering, and cleaning for others.
Darlene was a member of the United Church of Christ in Sibley. She enjoyed bowling and participated in league for many years. She also really enjoyed taking the kids fishing. Her family will remember her delicious caramel corn. She is remembered by her family as a caring, strong, independent woman who was always there for them.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Dorothy Willemssen of Sibley; niece, Brenda (Van Wyk) and Dan Hoffman of Mason City, IA, nephew Ryan (Tricia) Van Wyk of Sibley, IA; great nieces, Anna (Jeff) Boedensteiner, Emily Poss, Rachel Poss all of West Des Moines, IA, Shelby (Van Wyk) and Erik Thorp of Cloquet, MN; great nephews, Reid Van Wyk of Colorado Springs, CO, Jarrett Van Wyk of Ames, IA; close family, Delores Truckenmiller of Sibley, IA; nieces, Denise Truckenmiller and Glenn Greenfield of Sibley, Iowa, Darcy Martinez of Sibley, IA; great nieces, Kelsey (Elesson) Joseph of Sibley, IA and Alecia (Jacob) Juelfs of Sioux Falls, SD; along with a great great niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Harriet; infant brother, Richard; sister Phyllis Van Wyk; and brother-in-law, Willard Van Wyk.
