     Dora Jean Winkowitsch age 98 of George, Iowa died Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, with Pastor Bryan Anderson officiating.

     Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

      Arrangements are in the care of the Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA.

     Dora Jean Winkowitsch was born on January 4, 1925, in Canova, SD, the daughter of Clarence and Mattie (Bauman) Eberline.  In 1927 she moved with her family to George, IA.  She grew up there and attended and later graduated from George High School.  After graduating she taught country school for a time.  She worked for the IRS for a year in Omaha, NE.  She then moved back to George in 1944 and on December 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to William Winkowitsch.  The couple farmed in the George area and to this union one son, Dale Jay was born.

     Dora Jean was an active member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.  She liked to attend their Wednesday night Bible study.  She also volunteered at the George Museum.  Dora Jean’s hobbies included helping on the farm, cooking, and taking care of her cats.

     Dora Jean is survived by her son, Dale (Bonnie) Winkowitsch of George, IA; two granddaughters, Trisha (Todd) Rockman of Sibley, IA, and Tara (Heath) Hilbrands of George, IA; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Hilbrands, Nicholas (Allison) Hengeveld, Alexis Hengeveld, and Alyssa Hilbrands; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, William Winkowitsch; parents, Clarence, and Mattie Eberline; triplet brothers in infancy; and one sister, Evelyn Kirby.
