Ed Korthals age 92, of George, IA, died Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022, at Bethel Reformed Church, rural Little Rock, IA with Rev. Scott Van Ravenswaay, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Bethel Reformed Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present will be Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
Edward Korthals was born August 4, 1929, on the family farm south of George, IA, the son of Gerrit and Ida (DeWeerd). He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In August of 1951, Ed was inducted into the United States Marines. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home and had the opportunity to start farming which gave him great joy throughout his entire life. Ed was united in marriage to Pearl DeBoer on January 6, 1961, at Bethel Reformed Church at Ellsworth, MN. They made their home on a farm south of George, IA. Ed enjoyed following St Louis Cardinal baseball, coaching and playing slow pitch softball, bowling, and golfing. He served several terms on consistory as well as teaching 9th grade catechism and Sunday School at the Bethel Reformed Church where he was a longtime member.
He is survived by his two daughters, Becky (Doug) Stubbe of George, IA; and Rachel (Matt) Sullivan of Shelby Twp, MI; six grandchildren, Jason (Megan) Stubbe of George, IA; Karlee (Hunter) Sieperda of George, IA; Noah, Caleb, Levi and Kimberlie Sullivan all of Shelby Twp, MI; five great-grandchildren, Ava and Derek Timmer, Justin Stubbe, Hudson and Cameron Sieperda; brother, Alfred Korthals of George, IA and many beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl; parents, Gerrit and Ida Korthals; granddaughter, Kimberly Stubbe; brothers, Leonard in infancy, John, Marion, Albert, Harold and Ronald; sisters, Gertrude in infancy, Henrietta, Jeanette, Leona and Edith.
