Florence Arends

Ellsworth, MN 

     Florence Arends age 101 of Ellsworth, Minnesota died Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Parkview anor in Ellsworth.

     A memorial service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 26, 2023 at First Baptist Church, rural George, Iowa, with Reverend Jesse Sternke, officiating.

    A private graveside service will take place prior to the service.

Florence Arends was born on March 8, 1922, the daughter of George and Henrietta (Stubbe) Kruger on a farm near Ashton, Iowa.   She was raised on a farm North of George and attended Country School near her home.

On June 6, 1945, Florence was united in marriage to Sweer Arends at the First Baptist minister’s house in George, Iowa.  They lived on a farm near Ellsworth, then moved a couple more times to a farm North of Adrian in 1971, before settling in Ellsworth, Minnesota in 2006.  Florence and Sweer were blessed with six children.  

Florence was a member of the First Baptist Church in George, Iowa where she was a part of the Christian Hour Circle.  She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, knitting, crocheting, and sewing; making a lot of quilts throughout the years.  She was a very good cook and made a lot of pies and cakes.   Her grandchildren especially loved her mashed potatoes.  

Florence moved into Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, Minnesota in 2021, and lived there until she passed away on August, 23, 2023.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 78 years, Sweer; children, Sharon Arends of Ellsworth, MN, Marvella (Keith) Klaahsen of Sibley, IA, Glen (Barb) Arends of Lester, IA, Doug Arends of Sioux Falls, SD, Erwin (Lori) Arends of Little Rock, IA, Marlin (special friend, Dawn Marie) Arends of Onamia, MN; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Henrietta; stepmother, Sena Kruger; siblings, John (Ardel) Kruger, Viola Vos Kellen (Ralph Vos, Don Kellen), Albertus (Grace) Kruger, Daryl (Caroline) Kruger; and stepsister, Katherine Kruger.
