Gerald “Jerry” Goswick age 86, of George, IA, died Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Lyon Specialty Care Center in Rock Rapids, IA.
Visitation will be Friday, September 23rd from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
Memorial services will be held at10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA with Pastor Bryan Anderson, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.
Gerald Goswick was born on May 25, 1936, the youngest of four sons to Marshall and Zona (Lemons) Goswick in Delta County, Eckert, Colorado. After working the harvest fields, they returned to southern Missouri. In 1946, the family moved to Charles City, Iowa. Gerald graduated from Charles City High School in 1954. He went on to attend and graduate from Hamilton Business College, Mason City, Iowa with a finance degree. In 1957, Gerald married Norma Exline. They had two sons, Jay and James. They later divorced. Gerald proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962 — 1965 and was honorably discharged. He was primarily stationed in Alaska. Gerald audited and consulted with hotel chains throughout the country, including the Opry Land Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. In the late 70's he came to northwest Iowa and was employed at Sudenga Industries. He met and married Mary Jo Bruns on July 4, 1982. They did some traveling, but mostly enjoyed gardening and attracting a variety of birds to their many feeders.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Mary Jo “Mickey”; sons, Jay and James Goswick; stepson, Paul (Nancy) Bruns; brothers-in-law Norman (Cindy) Kramer and Steve Gustafson; sisters-in-law, Karen Goswick, Jan (Bill) Myers, and Darby (Dave) Marsh; and special nephew, Curt Goswick along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald & his wife, Betty, Merle, Carl & his wife, Mary Jane; stepdaughter, Kaye DeVaney; sister-in-law, Janelle Gustafson and brother-in-law, Gary Kramer & his wife Arlene.
