Harold Curtis age 84 of Sibley, Iowa died Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at his home in Sibley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2023, at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, with Father Siby Punnoose as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery in Sibley, IA, with military honors by George E. Mudge American Legion Post No. 324, William F. Allard VFW Post No. 7373, and the U.S. Marine Corps.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26th at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
Harold Leroy Curtis was born September 16, 1939, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Laura (Rosekrans) Curtis. He grew up in Oelwein and graduated from Oelwein High School.
Harold enlisted in the United States Marines on May 21, 1959, and transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves in 1963.
On March 3, 1973, Harold was united in marriage to Cathryn Majerus in Sibley, Iowa. They lived their lives together in Sibley for the past 50 years.
Harold worked at HJ Heiz Creamery for many years until its closure, then went to work for Chase Bag/Exo Pack and retired from there in 2006.
Harold became a member of the Knights of Columbus on January 17, 1982. He enjoyed playing games on the computer and doing crossword puzzles. He loved camping with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Cathryn; children, John Curtis of Lacey, Washington Terry Curtis of Dallas Center, IA, Scott (Cindy) Curtis of Sibley, IA, and Kevin Curtis of Martin, SD; 5 grandchildren, Mikel, Stephen, Collin, Bruce, and Michael; along with many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phoebe; and brothers, Robert, Donald, and George.
