     James Hesebeck age 77 of Ocheyedan, Iowa died Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

     A funeral service will take place 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa with Reverend Richard Milbrandt, officiating.

     Visitation will take place Monday, February 27th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home Andringa Chapel in Ocheyedan.

     James “Jim” Hesebeck was born March 26, 1945, to Frederick and Gertrude (Beers) Hesebeck in Sibley, Iowa.  He grew up in the Melvin and Ocheyedan area and attended Melvin School and Sibley High School.

    Jim was united in marriage to Lola Peters on July 11, 1964.  Their entire marriage they lived in Ocheyedan.  To this union three children were born, Steven, Sherwin and Sherry.  Jim worked in production at Campbell’s Soup in Worthington for 31 years before the factory closed.  He was also the owner of the Ocheyedan Laundromat in the past.

     In the past Jim was a Boy Scout leader.  He thoroughly enjoyed going canoeing, tent camping, and helping the boys earn their patches; especially the Below Zero patch.  He was also a member of the Catfish Club of Ocheyedan.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being outdoors.  He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events and spending time with them.

     Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Lola; children, Steven (Lisa) Hesebeck of Harris, IA, Sherwin (Paula) Hesebeck of Sheldon, IA, and Sherry (Keith) Rueter of Cordova, TN; 2 grandchildren, Tyler and Stephanie Rueter of Cordova, TN; brother, Jerry Hesebeck of Lake Park, IA; along with extended family and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Gertrude; sister, Betty Menze; and brother, Ronald Hesebeck.
