           John Sikma age 100 of Hills, MN formerly of Bigelow, MN died Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills.

     A funeral service will take place 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, Minnesota with Pastor Ron Lammers, officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Worthington.

     Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials directed to the Gideons.

     John Louis Sikma was born February 1, 1922, the son of Harry and Jeanette (Riemersma) Sikma on a farm outside of Ocheyedan, Iowa.  He was raised near Ocheyedan with his six brothers and one sister.  He attended Country School through the 8th grade.  On September 24, 1942 John was inducted into the United States Army at Camp Dodge, Iowa.  He served as a truck driver and Carbine Marksman in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines during World War II until his honorable discharge on November 8, 1945.
    

     John was united in marriage to Dorothy DeVries on September 3, 1947.  They lived most of their life on a farm near Bigelow, Minnesota.  Together they raised 3 daughters, Bernis, Janice, and Norma.  John was a farmer his entire life.
     

     He was a member of the American Legion and a Gideons member.  He enjoyed playing guitar, hunting, and was very involved in bible studies.
     Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 75 years, Dorothy; daughters, Janice Elaine Collison of Kalamazoo, MI, and Norma Kay (husband Daniel) Hoogerhyde of Grand Rapids, MI; son-in-law, Larry (wife Marsha) Jongetjes; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Harold (Marge) of Pella, IA, William of Grand Rapids, MI, and Rick (Ruth) of North Pole, AK; along with extended family and friends.
    

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Jeanette; daughter, Bernis Jongetjes; brothers, James, Roger, and Robert; and sister, Jacoba Harberts.
