Lois Faye Sixta was born August 28, 1941, in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Anne (Stubbe) Norman. She grew up on a family farm northeast of Little Rock, IA and attended Little Rock Country School. At age 16, she and her family moved to Sibley, IA and she graduated from Sibley High School in 1959. After her education she worked as a waitress at the Bigelow Café. There she met her husband to be, Roger L. Sixta.
Lois and Roger were united in marriage on July 9, 1963, at Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley, IA. They lived in Bigelow, MN for a short time before they moved to Lake Park, IA, where they farmed. In 1968 they moved to a farm North of Harris, Iowa. In 1977, they moved to the home place near Ocheyedan, IA, where they continued farming. Lois helped with many aspects on the farm, including taking care of the chickens, and bottle calves. She always had a large garden and enjoyed canning, baking, and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed traveling with Roger to tractor shows and going on tractor rides.
On January 31, 2013, her husband, Roger passed away. She remained living on the home place. She loved time spent with her family, especially Christmas Eve at her home. She enjoyed watching gameshows on TV and attending her monthly meetings with her classmates from school. She was always in favor of having ice cream as a meal. Although she was the mother of two boys she was referred to as mom by many. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who truly had a servant’s heart.
Lois is survived by her two sons, Grant Sixta and special friend Stacey Anderson and Clint Sixta and special friend Dawn Hibma, all of Ocheyedan, IA; ten grandchildren, Derek and Shawna, Kimber and Tyler, Jacquelynn and Joshua, Jenessa and Anthony, Harleigh, Lizzie and Jacob; twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Karren Witt of Ocheyedan, IA and many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends; and her dog, Moe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Anne Norman; husband of 49 years, Roger L. Sixta; five siblings and their spouses.
