Nema Mae Grafing

NOTICE: Rock Rapids, Iowa

      Nema Mae (Foltz) Grafing age 100, of Rock Rapids died Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 31th at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, with the Rev. Matt Polsdofer officiating.  Interment will follow at the Riverview cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Visitation will be one hour before the Services at the Church on Monday Morning.

     Nema Mae Foltz was born on January 29, 1921 to parents Glen D. and Anna G. (Johnson) Foltz at Inwood, Iowa.  Nema was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood, IA. and attended country school near Inwood thru the eighth grade. The family later moved to Larchwood, IA where Nema attended High School through the 11^th grade and also attended the Larchwood community Church. She moved to Rock Rapids for her Senior year and was a 1938 graduate of Wilson High School. After moving to Rock Rapids she became a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served in various women’s organizations there. Mrs. Grafing was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary.

     She worked at the Dime Store and JC Penney in Rock Rapids until going to National Business School in Sioux City, IA for one year. After Business school she went to work for the City of Rock Rapids as an assistant bookkeeper for five years.

     Nema was united in marriage to Arthur Claus Grafing on February 2, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, and moved to the Grafing family farm south of Rock Rapids. To this Union seven children were born: Curtis, Lynn, Reed, Steven Anne, Mark and James.

     The couple retired from farming and moved into Rock Rapids in 2005. They moved to Rock Rapids Health Centre on June 4, 2013, and celebrated their 70^th Anniversary there in 2017.  Arthur passed away on March 13, 2018. Nema moved to Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids on November 18, 2020 where she lived until her death.

     She is survived by children; Curt Grafing, Lynn (Lynda) Grafing, Reed (Bobbi) Grafing, all of Rock Rapids, IA., Steven of Sibley, IA., Anne (Mark) Honeyman of Ames, IA., Mark Grafing of Worthington, MN., and James (Keri) Grafing of Minneapolis, MN; Many Grand and Great Grandchildren; a sister Jan (Howard) Prieb of Anoka, MN; and many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.

     Nema was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur; sisters Ruth (Chuck) Stewart, Betty (Bob) Schol; and a brother Glen (Moon) (Leota) Foltz.
