Shirley Techen, age 85, of rural Sheldon, IA passed away at home on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hull, IA with Rev. Owen Hoegh officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at Hull.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday evening, October 9, 2023, at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Shirley Lavonne (Dagel)Techen was born on December 11, 1937, in Lyon County Iowa to parents Jim and Bertha Dagel. She grew up and attended country school near Ashton and was a 1956 graduate of Ashton High School.

Shirley was united in marriage to Eldon Albert Techen on June 6, 1956, at the Ashton Presbyterian Church. The newly wedded couple made their home on a small acreage near Matlock. In 1964 they moved to the current farm site where Shirley passed away.

She enjoyed tending to the dairy cattle and her flower gardens. Shirley loved spending time with her family including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Vernon) Van Tilburg of Doon; a son, Jeffrey (Luella) Techen of Ashton; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Jan Schilling of Little Rock and two sisters-in- law, Elaine Sohl and Marlene Techen.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Eldon, parents Jim and Bertha, parents-in-law Arlie and Ella Techen, her sister Marlene Stevens, in-laws, Ken Schilling, Dick Stevens, Al and Arlene Sohl, Ken Sohl, Arnold Techen, Ruben and Louise Winter, and three nephews Douglas Techen, Rodney Winter and Kevin Sohl.
