Steven Niswander, age 67 of Ocheyedan, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at his home in Ocheyedan.
Memorial service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 18, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan with Reverend Richard Milbrandt, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery at Ocheyedan.
Visitation will be Friday, February 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 with the family present at the Ocheyedan Town Hall.
Steven Eugene Niswander was born to David and Kathryn (Wise) Niswander on February 18, 1955.
He grew up in Ocheyedan and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1974. He spent many years traveling around the United States, building grain elevators and doing millwright work.
On May 9, 1981 he married Barb Brockshus and they were blessed with 3 children – Levi, Nicole and Dylan.
The following years were spent working for Raveling Inc., The Conveyor Company, and last year he retired from CFE.
He was baptized March 17, 1955, confirmed May of 1981 and was currently a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing at Iowa Lake with his grandkids. He also loved spending time with his kids and helping with any projects they might have. He rode motorcycle his entire life, and everyone knew the last weekend in July was spent at Catfish Derby Days in Franklin, MN with his friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barb. His children Levi (Ciara) Niswander of Matthews, North Carolina, Nicole (Brad) Holmberg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dylan Niswander (Jessica Morberg) of McIntosh, Minnesota. Grandchildren Wyatt and Kensley Niswander, Cecelia, William and Grace Holmberg. His siblings Diane (Chuck) Benz, Brenda Slade, Robin Flores, Neil Niswander, Lorraine Bremer (Monte Jaakes). Sisters-in-law Diane (Steve) Loeschen and Debbie Clem. Father-in-law Herb Brockshus. Also many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dean and mother-in-law, Marlene Brockshus.
