Susan "Sue" Ackerman, age 56, of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley, Iowa.
 
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley.
 
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Tim Nappe, officiating. Burial will follow at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery at Ocheyedan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials directed to the Ocheyedan City Park.

Susan Elaine Ackerman was born during a snowstorm on January 7, 1967 in Hartley, Iowa, the daughter of Larry and Ruby (Jacobsma) Brunk.  She grew up in Ocheyedan, graduating from Ocheyedan High School in 1985.  She then attended Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa.

Susan was united marriage to Todd Ackerman on April 8, 1988 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. They made their home near Melvin and Ashton, before moving to their current farmplace near Ocheyedan.  They were blessed with two sons, Derek and Devin.

In the past, she worked for Sathers, C-D Farm Service in Melvin, Melvin Savings Bank for many years, and most recently Cooperative Farmer's Elevator in Ocheyedan for the past 16 years as a bookkeeper.  

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley where she was involved with Bible School, Sunday School, children's bell choir and the women's church group.

Sue's love for the outdoors was shown through her beautiful gardens, riding on her lawnmower and playing an integral role in the family farming operation. She cherished her time spent with her grandchildren, whether playing at the park, reading books and doing puzzles, or exploring the farm. Sue enjoyed getting together with family, friends and neighbors, and it was always sure to be full of fun and laughter.

Sue will be remembered as a strong woman of faith with a servant heart, always willing to put others before herself. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 35 years, Todd; children, Derek (Megan) Ackerman of Ocheyedan, IA, Devin (Amy) Ackerman of Harris, IA; grandchildren, Blair, Brynn, and Quinnley with more on the way; parents, Larry and Ruby Brunk of Ocheyedan, IA; brother, Wade Brunk of Round Lake, MN; sisters-in-law, Becky (Dave) Heitritter of Melvin, IA, Brenda Cammann of Sanborn, IA; brother-in-law, Stan Ackerman of Sioux Falls, SD; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents-in-law, Stan and Karen Ackerman; and brothers-in-law, Troy Ackerman and Barry Cammann.
