Vincent “Vince” Gacke age 93 of Larchwood, Iowa died Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation will be Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Father Sunny Dominic as celebrant.
Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood is in charge of services.
Vincent James Gacke was born on March 18,1930 in Alvord, IA, the son of August and Irene (Wiegman) Gacke. He grew up in the Alvord, Larchwood, and Rock Valley areas and graduated from high school in Rock Valley, IA.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from February 26, 1952, to February 9, 1954, with a rank of PFC.
On May 28, 1955, Vince was united in marriage to Bonnie Otten in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Sioux Falls, SD and Larchwood, IA. Vince’s working career was varied. He worked for Harold’s Photo, Hut and Tufty Car Dealer, Falls Beauty Supply, Sunshine Food warehouse, Golden Sun Feeds, CLM, LCM and Sioux Valley Hospital.
He enjoyed family vacations, the Minnesota Twins, and photography. He served for 38 years as finance officer for Flessner Post 561 American Legion, Larchwood, IA, was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, active as Eucharistic Minister.
He is survived by six of his seven children, daughter Karen (Robert) Johns, son, Mark (Ronda) Gacke, daughter, Cathy (Brian) Anderson, daughter, Sheri (Todd) Russell, son Lyle (Angie) Gacke, and daughter, Molly (Curt) Holtz; daughter-in-law, Debbra (Jim); fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one step grandchild; four step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Barb (Jerry) Leighton
Vince was preceded by his wife, Bonnie Gacke; son, Jim Gacke; his parents August and Irene; and siblings Mary Cunningham, Joe Gacke, Esther McParland, Ethel (at birth), Cletus and Bernard Gacke.
