William Vust, age 73, of George, IA died Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA with Pastor Bryan Anderson, officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 2, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
William “Bill” Max Vust was born December 17, 1948, in Adrian, Minnesota, the son of John R. and June I. (Rust) Vust. He was raised on a family farm near Ellsworth, MN and at the age of 8 he and his family moved to Sibley, Little Rock and Sioux City, IA, where he graduated from Central High School. He continued his education at Morningside College earning his Bachelor of Science degree. His first job was in the circulation department of the Sioux City Journal. In 1976 he began working at Iowa Beef Pack in Sioux City as a quality control inspector. He retired in 2008 and moved to George, IA where he cared for his ailing mother. His mother, June, passed away and Bill remained living in George for the remainder of his life.
Throughout Bill’s life he enjoyed the outdoors, watching the birds and monitoring the seasonal migration. He also enjoyed collecting things, such as coins and marbles. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George.
He is survived by three siblings, Delores (husband Robert) Hobbs of Salisbury, NC, Gary (wife Brenda) Oian Vust of Eagle Lake, MN and Bonnie Jensen of Wilmont, MN; eight nieces and nephews, Christine Mullins, Carline (husband John) Green, Amanda (husband Jesse) Jensen-Stahl, Robert (wife Jennifer) Hobbs, Alicia (Chris) Paulson, Anna (husband Robert) Wilkinson, Regan and Nadia Oian Vust; four great-nieces and nephews, Jessica and Autum Mullins, Trey Jensen, and Susannah Hobbs; aunt, Joyce Hovland of Luverne, MN; and many other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and June Vust; brother, John W. Vust; and a niece, Natasha Oian Vust.
